Ed Miliband's Pathological Obsession With Net Zero

I still find it even more infuriating and heartless that Ed Miliband says he understands people's 'concern' with energy prices increasing by 10% come the winter, while snatching pensioner's winter fuel allowance.

How dare he say he 'understands'. No, he doesn't. He doesn't care either. He just wants to plough on with his pathological, inexplicable obsession with net zero. Pouring billions of £ pounds into completely useless projects.

Send Middle East and African countries millions of £ pounds for their 'pet' schemes, which we all know will simply end up being trousered by despots and greedy individuals. Just like the hundreds of billions of pounds they've been getting for as long as I can remember (40-50 years) to stop child poverty, hunger, infrastructure, housing - you name it. Has anything changed?

He talks of blaming the Tories for creating the sky high cost of gas we have to import from countries like Russia. Did the Tories invade Ukraine? Was it their fault? Much as I dislike the Tories and Sunak in particular, you can't hang that one on them.

All this while knowing full well what we have 'right under our feet'. Plentiful stocks of gas, just sitting there, untapped via fracking. Plenty of untapped oil reserves in the North Sea.

But no - we'll cover prime farmland with solar panels in a country (just look at this summer) where the sun rarely shines.

We'll cover the landscape with windmills (I don't care what fancy names people call them these days, the basic principle is a windmill), which are unreliable, often break down, have a relatively short lifespan and can't be recycled.

Not to mention the fact that the energy can't be stored, or ramped up or down as demand increases or diminishes. Only via batteries. Huge banks of them (also littering the landscape). Don't even get me started on how battery components are manufactured and how the elements required to make them are mined.

All this, as I said, is an illogical, pathologic obsession. Which we, the UK tax payer, will have to pay for - to reach the mythical 'net zero'. Meanwhile, Miliband 'understands' our concern that old age pensioners will die this winter as a direct result of hypothermia.

Apparently, they are encouraging pensioners to claim 'pension credits' which if successful means you 'will' get the heating allowance this year. I claimed (on-line) a couple of months ago. I'm relatively ok with computers, and have used them throughout my working life.

I'm 68 now, but the form you're required to fill in is horrendous. It takes forever to complete, even if you can figure out what each question means. Apparently I am eligible, but any benefit I get won't kick in, until October...no idea why. They didn't say.

To some (a huge number), the form - if you have internet access - is specifically designed to put people off even making a claim. Trust me, it works. That's assuming you can work a computer, and many older people can't.

Okay, you 'may' be able to get someone to help fill the forms in. But getting that sort of help from wherever is almost impossible.

Unless you can't speak a word of English and rock up on a dinghy. Then it's red carpet treatment.

So, let's imagine good ol' blighty reaches the net zero target. That unobtainable Utopia that Miliband and his cohorts obsess about. Then what? Fly a white flag from Buck House? Crow about it in the media?

Meanwhile the rest of the world laughs at the UK, which is now broke, destitute and fighting each other like rats in a sack. All for one man's (and a bunch of cohorts) obsession with net zero.

I need a lie down now...Have a nice day folks and a lovely (if you can) long weekend.
